A payment link is a convenient and fast way to receive payments from customers. It is a URL that you share via email, SMS or any other messaging app. As soon as your customer clicks the link, they land on a payment page where the payment can be completed right away.
Creating a payment link
Go to “Payment links” and click “Create payment link”. You can also open a customer and add a payment link for that customer via “New”.
Under “Type”, choose the type of link you want to use. Below you can read which type fits which situation.
Fill in the required fields, such as the description (which is also visible to the customer) and the amount.
If needed, adjust the options in the panel on the right. Read below which options there are.
Click “Create payment link”. You will see the link in the green message. You can also find it later in the payment links overview.
Share the link with your customer. You can copy it and send it yourself, or email it directly from RCUR. Read how to email a payment link.
Which type of payment link should I choose?
Type | Choose this if you want to… | Available |
|---|---|---|
Payment | let the customer pay a single amount. | All plans |
Subscription (Basic) | let the customer pay a first amount and then agree to a subscription with one fixed amount. | If recurring payments are enabled in Mollie |
Subscription (Advanced) | start a subscription with one or more rules. | From the Advanced plan |
Orders | let the customer choose products or services themselves. | Expert and Professional plans |
Mandate | not start a subscription yet, but do store the customer’s IBAN or card. | If recurring payments are enabled in Mollie |
One-off direct debit | ask the customer for their IBAN for a single SEPA direct debit. | From the Advanced plan, with SEPA Direct Debit enabled in Mollie |
Is a type missing from the list, for example “Subscription” or “Mandate”? Then read Why can I not choose for subscription or mandate?
Explanation per type
Payment
The simplest variant: the customer pays a single amount, done.
Subscription (Basic)
The customer first pays a starting amount and then agrees to start a subscription. With a Basic subscription you set one fixed amount that is charged, for example, every month.
Do you have the Advanced plan or higher? Then we recommend using Advanced subscriptions because of the more extensive options.
Subscription (Advanced)
With this type you set up an advanced subscription with one or more rules. The customer sees all subscription rules during checkout and has to accept them.
Orders
The customer can select one or more products and fills in their details. Recurring products in orders are also possible. Read how to receive orders.
Mandate
Sometimes you don’t want to start a subscription right after the first payment. With a Mandate link, Mollie stores the customer’s IBAN or card details after the payment. You can then start a subscription manually via the dashboard, or create a one-time payment.
One-off direct debit
With all other types, the first payment is never a SEPA direct debit. With this type the customer fills in their IBAN and a single SEPA direct debit is carried out. Read how that works.
Useful options
In the panel on the right of the form you choose extra options. If an option says “Available in …”, you need a higher plan for it.
No expiry date (from Expert): the payment link does not expire. How long does a payment link remain valid?
Unlimited (from Expert): the link can be used an unlimited number of times, for example on your website. This is not possible for links you create from a customer. Can a payment link be used multiple times?
Customization (from Expert): a payment screen with your own logo and colors. How can I personalize the checkout screen?
Emails (from Advanced): we send the customer an email with the payment link and let them know when the payment was successful.
Reminders (from Expert): we send a reminder to the customer. What are reminders?
Attachment (from Advanced): a file the customer can download after a successful payment.
Redirect URLs (from Advanced): send the customer to your own page after the payment. What are redirect URLs?
Sign-up form (no first payment) (from Expert, for Subscription (Advanced)): only ask for an IBAN mandate, without a first payment. How does the sign-up form work?
Invoicing (from Professional): automatically send an invoice after the payment, via your connected invoicing app.
